Hi, Iām Coach Mike Lewis
At Swim Better San Diego, safety comes first.
Every lesson is grounded in creating confident, capable swimmers who understand how to move safely in the water. I am trained in adult and child CPR, first aid, and Safety Training for Swim Coaches through the American Red Cross, and I approach every session with a strong awareness of risk, environment, and readiness. Whether we are in a backyard pool or preparing for the ocean, the goal is simple: your child knows how to handle themselves in the water.
I have spent over 40 years in and around the water as a swimmer, national champion, coach, ocean lifeguard, and lifelong ocean athlete. I began coaching swim lessons at 15 years old and have worked with athletes at every level, from beginners to the Olympic stage.
In Southern California, I also served as a coordinator for the Junior Lifeguard program, helping young swimmers build the skills and confidence needed to navigate the ocean safely.
Swim Better San Diego brings that experience directly to you through private, at-home lessons designed to meet each swimmer where they are. Whether your child is learning the basics or preparing for Junior Lifeguards, the focus is always on safety, confidence, and real-world water skills that last.
This is not just about learning to swim. It is about feeling safe, confident, and at home in the water.
